Join us on August 5th for the annual Zahara Kathawalla Foundation Walk/Run, Z5K. Start training now and join us for a day of fun, exercise, and community. The race will be held in the morning and will start and end on the paths near Gold Medal Park along the Mississippi River. We will be incorporating wellness & cultural exploration activities inspired by Zahara before and after the race.

In honor of Z’s birthday, I hope today is a day

In honor of Z’s birthday, I hope today is a day where memories of Zahara inspire action.

Zahara wrote a list in 2020 of her life goals in her journal and I wanted to share a handful of her goals with the thought that one could be your “inspired action” today or in the next year.

Personally, I am ready for a movie watching marathon. The Oscars are on March 12th, giving me 13 days to start watching! I hope you enjoy doing something inspired by Zahara.

A game to remember- Vikings won with the biggest comeback in NFL history! Zahara had become even more of a football fan in 2019 and was excited to go to a football game with her dad. She didn’t have the chance and so today her sister and Dad remembered Zahara as they cheered. They felt Zahara’s energy in the stadium. Three weeks later and I am still feeling my “runner’s high” after the 2022 Z5K!

Thank you to all of you who participated in the ZKF’s 2nd annual fundraiser- it was such a special event! We had over 200 runners join us at Gold Medal Park. And over 70 virtual runners who ran their own 5K all over the world, including Chicago, Boston, Colorado, New York, and many more places. We are thrilled to see the ZKF Community grow, inspired by Zahara. We will continue to grow in her honor. 💛

The raised funds will help to carry out the ZKF mission of supporting young adults to pursue their dreams of 📚education, 🌏cultural exploration, and 🏃🏽‍♀️wellness.

We are two weeks away from the Zahara Kathawalla Foundation’s Second Annual Event, Z5K! We will start with a Zahara-inspired yoga routine, followed by the Fun Run/Walk, and end the day with a gathering at Day Block Brewery.

Today marks two years without our Zahara. Finding joy and happiness is more effortful than it ever was before. But luckily we have many “Z-Inspired” activities that we can do to embody Zahara's spirit.

I love you so much Zahara and you continue to inspire my every adventure.

The Zahara Kathawalla Foundation is excited to announce our second annual fundraising event: ZKF’s 5K Fun Run!

Join us Saturday, July 30, 2022 from 7:30-11:00am in one of Zahara’s favorite hometown hangouts, Gold Medal Park in downtown Minneapolis. Attendees are invited to join the Foundation for a short yoga session prior to the race, as well as for treats at the Mill City Farmer’s Market following the race.

The ZKF 5K Fun Run is fit for all ages and skill levels, and we hope you’ll join us in celebrating Zahara’s love for exercise and the outdoors.

I’ve always loved music and even more so now. Music is my connection to Zahara, and I continue to feel her presence through tunes. Today on her birthday, I am sharing part of the special Kevin Morby concert from Zahara’s birthday last year. As many of you know, Kevin Morby’s song Beautiful Strangers is a song Zahara texted to me which showed up again in our lives when we needed it most. Then, out of the goodness of his heart, @kevinmorby played a virtual concert for Zahara’s birthday. Such pure evidence of Zahara sending us messages and hope through music.

The first song in this video is called “Congratulations.”

Michele, spent some time in Martha’s Vineyard and came upon this amazing Memory spot on the shore. She felt Zahara would have loved it here with all the natural beauty and hiking trails and efforts to conserve this beautiful island. A place Zahara may have eaten at since it is one of her favorite foods- icecream- and in a city she loved. Ummuls friends thought about Zahara, listened to her music and shared memories about her a lot during our road trip to DC back in September. And they thought that a mini stop in Madison would be a wonderful way to honor her as well :). They found this cute little ice cream shop and decided to get an ice cream in the honor of Zahara. And they found a cute community garden right across the backyard of that ice cream shop and left their Z-rock there and spread the sunflower seeds. There were some other plants (garlic ?) nearby and they thought the sunflower could benefit from the water and care that those plants get and grow there. It kind of makes them think of Zahara talking with strangers and making new friends in a bar or something 🙂 So these sunflower seeds are going to make some random friends there :). A brick in Zahara’s honor at the Minnesota Arbor

A brick in Zahara’s honor at the Minnesota Arboretum in Chaska. Not only are the words a perfect representation of Z- truly “a beautifully life lived- smiling, laughing, loving,” but also I am happy she will be remembered among beautiful trees that keep changing with the seasons. Hope folks can go to enjoy the 3-mile loop and stop at the Brick Maze on the way. Such a kind and generous donation from Zahara’s sister’s classmates from Blake. 💚

In a true Zahara-esque way, Z continues to inspire

In a true Zahara-esque way, Z continues to inspire new connections. Dr. Bill Shimp, a colleague of my father, shared Zahara’s story and the goal of Zahara Explores Earth to keep Z’s adventurous spirit alive with his daughter, Emily. Emily, loving to travel, wanted to support the mission. She took this as an opportunity to have Zahara join her as she explored St. Barthelemy, a French Island in the Caribbean. Although she never met Zahara, Emily felt her warm presence and adventurous spirit by her side as she climbed a perch overlooking nearby islands. ⁣
⁣
She also included a photo of a “Z” rock with a departing airplane in the background. Just as I had hoped for, Emily said may this signify Zahara’s wish to continue her travels in spirit with family, friends and even those who didn’t have the pleasure of knowing her. A state where Zahara made many memories with family and friends. Z’s friend, Gia, visited Estes Park, a small, beautiful town in Northern CO. There was not a cloud in the sky and the views were breathtaking. As she looked out at the mountains, she felt a deep sense of peace in knowing how much Zahara would’ve appreciated the fresh Colorado air and the stillness of the lake. She came across the phrase “the earth laughs in flowers” printed on a cement pillar, and she loved the idea that Zahara is making the earth smile as we continue to spread sunflower seeds in her memory.
